What could be better than a trip to New York during Fashion Week to refresh one’s style and finally slip on the Manolos that have sadly remained buried under last year’s summer collection? To cover the event, SGM sent its trend maven to report. Here is Simone Lussier’s close-up preview of one of the world’s most-anticipated fashion events!
The ultra-chic VIP experience
Between the paparazzi, the glamour factor, the parade (or glimpses) of celebrities, the espresso that turns a little too quickly into a cocktail and heels that make you teeter, Fashion Week is all go-go and zero slo-mo!
Happily, Marie Saint Pierre, a local designer we’ve got a soft spot for, was on hand to charm us (again), but this time in a distant locale! (In Montreal, you can find her designs at Rockland Centre, a Cominar property.) The Montreal designer chose the Chelsea district and its gallery scene to set up her independent showroom. She outshone big names at the trade show and was a perfect fit among the rich fabric of artwork on display. Her American buyers were delighted!
A glass of champagne in hand, patrons – some styling a bit of boho – discovered Marie Saint Pierre’s 2018 Spring/Summer collection at their leisure. It was clearly an honour to have exclusive access to the designer’s world all the while enjoying an ultra-efficient moment of respite. The calm, clean decor, in which the clothes were given the entire stage, allowed buyers to focus fully on their selection. At the end of the experience, it’s not the bubbles that excited their heads, but rather the anticipation of receiving their new order!
Why not linger a little longer?
All things must come to an end… but sometimes it’s tempting to extend the pleasure (just a little longer)! With Fashion Week over, Marie Saint Pierre packed up the showroom and transformed it into a pop-up shop in the trendy Soho neighbourhood (next door to Céline!). Open to the public, it drew in passers-by with the same “haute couture meets art” vibe mixed with a fresh new approach. A shared apartment-style space that also plays host to other Canadian brands such as Lampi Lampa, Zvelle and artist Fran Lamothe, who are presenting their creations alongside those of the celebrated designer from September 29 to October 31.
In short, a unique way to revisit retail and elevate the shopping experience to the same edifying level as a museum visit. It’s a fashion approach we adore!
