How to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1000 De La Gauchetière, a prestigious building located in Montreal’s business centre? That was the question asks to SGM, who was mandated to organize a celebratory event that would bring all tenants together in an original, fun and delicious way.
Le 1000, the belle of the party
It’s not a party without a cake! A layered cake made up of a 1,000 pieces (and not one less!) was commissioned from Jean-Marc Guillot, Executive Pastry Chef at the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, a property owned by Ivanhoé Cambridge (and Le 1000’s next door neighbour!).
Never heard of Jean-Marc Guillot? He’s a culinary talent to follow, as he has won both the Meilleur ouvrier de France and World Pastry Champion titles (incredible, but true!). SGM is proud that he accepted to contribute his talent, as well as his time, to the celebrations for Le 1000. We later learned that he also had to satisfy the sweet palates of 3,000 people at The Queen Elizabeth the same day as our event. I think we can all agree: that’s a big day on the job!
Despite the superhuman demands, Jean-Marc succeeded in delighting the eyes and taste buds of everyone present with an impressive creation while The Montreal Jazz Band provided an immersive musical ambiance that perfectly complemented the cake. It was such a success that all 1,000 pieces disappeared in just a few hours!
Here are a final few words on Jean-Marc Guillot and his Montreal career: After turning out much praised desserts at Europea as executive pastry chef and the opening of Essence Glacier, he teamed up with The Queen Elizabeth’s executive chef, Baptiste Peupion, Maître Cuisinier de France. Together, this duo refines the flavours of this prestigious table to create an avant-garde culinary experience.
So, where will you find SGM next? At The Queen Elizabeth for tea time, of course!
